The Thessalon Community Curling Club Board of Directors has made the difficult decision to remain closed for the 2020/21 season. We have reviewed the financials and weighed them against the added expenses, shortened season and operational restrictions concluding that staying closed is the smartest option. Traditional means to generate revenue will not exist - no bonspiels, no competitions, no rentals, reduced bar, etc. Unlike the Thessalon Municipal Arena that is funded by local taxpayers, the curling club is self-funded. Membership and bar revenue alone no longer support operations. Fortunately, we are still able to run our Catch the Ace raffle at this time to bring money into the club. We are also exploring other fundraisers.
The Board still has much work to do this season but ten people can't do it alone. We invite our membership to participate. Last year we purchased a new furnace and we need to buy new on-ice heaters before we curl again. A project plan is being compiled for consideration which may include painting the basement floors, the change rooms and the lockers, and perhaps reconfiguring the bar. We are open to ideas and suggestions from the membership. We are asking members to consider a voluntary payment of an Associate Membership Fee of $28.25 ($25 + HST) to help us through this season. If anyone would like to consider another monetary donation or donation of time, labour or materials that would be fantastic. Please email [email protected] for more information.
Together we can get through this down time and hopefully come back next season renewed and refreshed to a new and improved venue. Until we are all together again be safe and good health.
